LG has announced its new smartphone in July and released it in August 2012. Packed with Android OS (Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3), LG Optimus 4X HD has made its presence felt among the new generation smart phones. I had the chance to play with new L Series smartphone by LG and needless to say, LG is doing things right here by adding many custom feels and out of the box feature to their latest series of smartphons. Here I'm sharing a quick review of LG optimus 4X HD, which is one od the premium and costliest phone in L series and comes with quad core processor, 8 MP HD camera and amazing battery backup.

Before I share the unboxing video of LG Optimus 4X, here is a quick review and impression of LG Optimus.

Review of LG Optimus 4X HD:

Physical attributes (Looks, Display and weight) Design is simple and sober, you may not fall in love instantly but gradually you will get inclined. True HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen provides great color reproduction and viewing angles. Front screen which is almost covered by display is 4.7 inches (16M color) and has a resolution of 720p. It is slim and weighs only 133 g with Gorilla glass screen and plastic body. LG Optimus 4X HD is slim at 8.9 mm thick but long enough to make some of us feel difficult to hold it single handily. It comes in two colors, white and black. The backside of LG optimus needs special mention as pattern and feel gives it elegant touch and doesn't look like just another phone. If you are one of those who likes to hold something which feel more than just another phone, LG optimus 4XHD in your hand will give that elegance. User Interface (UI) and Apps Apart from cosmetic changes LG has done significant changes as far as user interface is concerned. There are only 2 physical buttons on this smartphone – the power/ lock switch at the top and volume rocker at the left hand side. Right hand side is kept free where a dedicated camera button could have done wonders. The headphone jack, secondary microphone is at top and micro USB port has found its place at the bottom which supports mobile high definition link (MHL). The phone has no HDMI output. The small logo of LG has been put at the centre under the tiny ear piece grill. There are three touch buttons for back, home and menu beneath the screen, all of which only light up when touched. To unlock the screen you simply place your finger anywhere on the screen, swipe away the circle of the transparent window that pops up. Packed with NVidia Tegra 3 chipset, Optimus has added several remarkable apps and features. Customisations are possible to home screen, like you can change the theme and effect of home page. It has an inbuilt backup mechanism to backup or restore apps, bookmarks, calendar, call log, contacts, and home-screen or system settings to the device memory or SD card. LG has included some pre-loaded apps like SmartWorld (extra app store), SmartShare (DLNA app), RemoteCall Service (remote servicing tool), Quickmemo (note app) and MediaHome (a dashboard for all multimedia content on your phone).

Optimus 4X HD Performance

With quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex A9 processor and 16 GB of internal storage, LG Optimus 4X HD is performance beast and everything is creative and energetic with it. Scrolling on UI is quite smooth. The keyboard is good, if not excellent. That makes typing very smooth for text messaging, mailing or even goggling. Shortcuts to punctuations are worth mentioning. With 1 GB RAM this smartphone works perfectly even after you open multiple apps. If you use your phone for playing games, this smartphone will not disappoint you. Now, with multicore processor and 720p display, definitely battery requirement is high. The 2100 mAh battery of Optimus is optimum for only a day with minimal usage. Audio from Optimus is not up to the mark when compared with competitors like Samsung Galaxy 3G and One X. Speakers are nice but still lack that punch. Camera : 8 MP HD Optimus has an 8 mega-pixel auto-focus camera with LED flash. It has decent features of face and smile detection, geo-tagging and image stabilization. In bright light it takes good pictures with good details, color and contrast, but in low light it still has to make its mark. The camera also has the different modes such as panorama, HDR, scene modes and more. The focussing system needs some improvements. Videos are of medium quality on LG Optimus 4X HD and you will get a smooth navigation on its timeline. Here is unboxing video of this power beast from LG: http://youtu.be/aLPGIDay0jg With great performance, elegant design and display, LG Optimus 4X HD at a price of $599 (INR 32,999) looks good and worth a buy. Do let me know if hows your experience and first impression of LG optimus 4H HD?
